Let it Snow!

So, this year I'm spending some time back in Cleveland after three years in Washington, D.C. While the nation's capitol gets comparably little snow over the year, the entire city and federal government shuts down with even the mention of snow. In Cleveland, however, we've already had 3 major snow storms (with over 6 inches with each one) and the city just keeps on going. Things don't shut down as often as they did in D.C. Within a couple hours the major roads are cleaned and salted. All this makes the winter much more enjoyable in Cleveland than in D.C.

Check out the link above... it's all about snow flakes! Seems like there is tons of research being done on the subject. Who knew??

I just love this internet thing... with a simple "Google" search you can become a near expert on almost any topic!

O.K.

One of the guys that does research with me, Massimiliano Spaliviero, found on the internet something about the origin of the common term OK. He does not have the source anymore but claims that O.K. originally came from a war in which soldiers wrote 0 (zero) K on the doors of their barraks every night. This was meant to tell others in their camp that there were zero killed in their group that day and that every thing was alright. This definition was not listed in the link above but it's the one I like the most...

Max, this was an OK blog idea!!

Swedish Fish

K and Jason were having a discussion about different foods and the following is the result which K e-mailed me...

Q. Why are they called swedish fish??

A. These candies are made by a swedish company called Malacoleaf. The company was originally known as Malaco and was founded in 1905 in Copenhagen, Sweden. They started making licorice in the 1920's, and swedish fish in the 1950's. At that time the fish were imported from Sweden. Recently (1990's) the production of Swedish fish was begun in Canada, where it remains to this day. Interestingly, Malacoleaf also makes Sour patch kids.

Thought you may appreciate the history.
